The astute ones amongst you will have realised we’ve missed July out but as we’re already half
way through August it seemed more confusing to call this one July. On the social side,
special thanks go to Phil and Linda for an excellent BBQ night at their place in Cropwell
Butler – enjoyed by all who went.
On with the business…
Committee notes
We’ve had two meetings since the last newsletter.
We welcomed John O’Dell to the club. John has been a regular down at the 10s.
On the clothing front it was decided to look at a change of club colours – possibly a
combination of black/silver/grey/red and to ask Andy to propose some alternatives.
At the August meeting, the committee looked at a total of 9 designs and narrowed these
down to three for the club to consider. An illustration of the designs and colour alternatives
with voting slip is attached. Voting slips should be returned to Paul Harwood at the clubroom
address or by e-mail. The closing date for voting is 30 September.
It was decided to promote two open events in 2006. These will be a 50km 3-up TT based on the
Granby 50m course to be held just prior to the 3-up national Championships
(probably 3rd Sat in June) and the traditional Goose Fair 25 at the end of the season
using the Tuxford based circuit course. Phil will run the 3-up and Francis the 25.
The club dinner and prize presentation will be held on the first Saturday in February and
will follow the same format as the well-received 2004 Dinner at the Old Ship. A new venue
will be sought as the Ship has now changed hands with early reports being that food quality
has deteriorated.
It was agreed to hold a club social meeting at a pub on the last Thursday of every month so
people can keep in touch over the Winter and have a meal and drink together. The first of
these will be at the Rose and Crown at Hose with further venues being notified as we go along.
Although it was suggested that this could be combined with a committee meeting, it was finally
agreed that the existing format of 2nd Friday of the month at the clubroom should be retained.
Further social events will be determined from time to time over the Winter along with club
rides which will accommodate riders of any ability. The Committee was very keen to ensure the
club retains the interest of everyone who has come along to ride the 10s this Summer.
Club Racing
The evening 10s are now nearing their conclusion with the last one, the bob-in-the-hat, being
on 25 August at 7pm. For the uninitiated, this means putting a quid in a hat
(sorry that’s inflation for you), with the best improvement on the night winning all the cash.
A good turnout is therefore needed to make it worthwhile for the winner – which might be you of
course. We’ll give a round up of the final results of the 10 competition, along with the
bob-in-the-hat in the next edition.
All racing members are encouraged to make sure they enter the ANDCC Lighthouse 25 on 18
September (Granby Course) so that we have a large club presence at this traditional end of
season event. Teams of 5 riders are need to qualify for the trophy so we could have two teams
in the event if everyone has a go.
Martin and Hazel’s wedding with race meeting…
Many of you will already know that our son, Martin, and Hazel Purser are getting married on
Saturday 17 September with a Grass Track race meeting and evening buffet later in the day.
All Nottingham Clarion members and their partners/families will be welcome and are positively
encouraged to come along, whether or not they bring a bike. Apart from ’serious’ races
(invitation only, as grass track requires experience) others are welcome to bring a bike
(ideally fixed wheel, no brakes, and knobbly tyres) but anything will do as it is intended to
provide something for everyone, including children, to enjoy.
The do is at Grassthorpe, just north of Newark, from 4.30 pm on Hazel’s parents’ field.
This is on Silver Street at the northern end the village. If you need further directions
let us know, but it shouldn’t be hard to find.
